About the Company:

NovaBay Pharmaceuticals is a mid-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing its proprietary and patented Aganocide compounds, first-in-class, novel, synthetic anti-infective product candidates that are bioequivalent to the active antimicrobial molecules generated within white blood cells to treat and prevent a wide range of infections without causing resistance. NovaBay has internal development programs aimed at addressing hospital and respiratory infections. The company has a licensing and research collaboration agreement with Alcon, Inc. for use of its Aganocides in the eye, ear and sinus, and in contact lens solutions. NovaBay has entered into an agreement with Galderma S.A. to develop and commercialize Aganocides in acne, impetigo and other dermatological indications.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement enzyme- and cell-based screening assays
  • Develop and implement in vitro antimicrobial testing
  • Conduct mechanism-of-action and resistance studies using state-of-art technologies
  • Follow established protocols to conduct pre-IND testing of NovaBay's proprietary compounds.
  • Develop and implement animal infection models
  • Characterize microbial strains and mammalian cell lines as needed; acquire and bank new microbial strains and cell lines.
  • Supervise junior laboratory personnel
  • Work closely with chemists, biologists and clinical personnel to advance NovaBay's proprietary products into the clinic.

Requirements:

  • Minimum requirements are a Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology/Microbiology with 3-8 years industrial research experience in Infectious Diseases. Additional postdoctoral research experience preferred.
  • Anti-infective drug discovery track record essential.
  • Experience in molecular biology and/or biochemistry, including assay development, required.
  • Experience in cell-based assay development desirable.
  • Scientific problem solving, versatile, able to work with a team and conduct research independently.
  • Track record of effective personnel team management.
  • Excellent written, oral communication and organization skills required.
  • Team player with ability to work in a fast-paced biotech environment is essential.
